The Korean people marked the 42nd anniversary of Kim Jong Il's start of work at the Central Committee of the Workers′ Party of Korea on June 19.
That day in Juche 53 (1964) he started work at the general staff of the Korean revolution, which marked a historic event in the Korean people's efforts to carry forward and consummate the socialist cause.
President Kim Il Sung said:
"For his leadership ability and character and for his loyalty, devotion and achievements, Comrade Kim Jong Il has earned the people's respect and love as well as high prestige as their leader."
Kim Jong Il is the great leader of the WPK and the Korean people, who has made great achievements on behalf of the country and people by wisely steering the building of the Party, army and socialism for decades, earning full support and trust of the whole Party, the entire army and all the people.
In the 1960s the Korean revolution was entering a new stage of development in which the Korean people were building socialism on a full scale and the situation of the world socialist movement was complicated by the counter-revolutionary moves of modern revisionists.
It was an urgent demand of the times to develop the Party and enhance its leading role in every way in accordance with the law governing the implementation of the independence cause of the popular masses and in keeping with the changing circumstances.
At this juncture, Kim Jong Il started his work at the WPK Central Committee.
For over four decades since then, he has staunchly defended, inherited and enriched Kim Il Sung's party-building idea and achievements with his outstanding ideology and leadership.
Under his leadership, the WPK paved the way for the building of Kim Il Sung's party, thus setting the pace in the building of a revolutionary party leading the socialist cause to victory.
Attaching primary importance to laying ideological and organizational foundations for developing the WPK to be the party of Kim Il Sung, Kim Jong Il conducted energetic ideological and theoretical activities to define that the revolutionary idea of Kim Il Sung is the ideological banner to be held up by the WPK and launched the struggle to eliminate all sorts of alien ideas and factional elements to secure the unity in ideology and will in the Party ranks and their purity.
Thanks to his wise guidance the WPK could develop into a party assuming a unique aspect as the party of its founder even in the vortex of complicated world situation in which ruling socialist parties degenerated, disintegrated and collapsed in different countries and demonstrate the indomitable spirit and peerless might of a revolutionary party advancing the socialist cause steadily.
What is important in his leadership of the WPK is that he turned the Party into a powerful guiding force for the Songun revolution.
He, who has consistently carried forward Kim Il Sung's Songun revolutionary line from the beginning of his leadership, developed Songun politics in depth and strove to strengthen the Party accordingly.
He put forward the Korean People's Army as the hard core and mainstay of the Korean revolution and encouraged the whole Party to learn the revolutionary soldier spirit created and displayed by the KPA and embody the KPA′s revolutionary spirit and its high sense of organization, discipline and unity.
He ensured that all officials and Party members adopted the KPA's revolutionary and militant method of work and acquired its fighting moral and traits to carry on Party work on the principle of giving precedence to the military affaires and in a way that soldiers do and that Party organizations at all levels enhanced their role constantly.
Today, the WPK firmly preserves continuity and uniformity in ideology and leadership, faithfully serves the people by bearing the responsibility for their destiny and defends national sovereignty and brings about national prosperity by giving priority to the arms.

In the unprecedentedly rigorous years they built many structures of lasting value including industrial establishments and changed looks of the country.
In the spirit of June 15 North-South Joint Declaration, the Korean people are making bigger efforts to reunify the country by foiling every move of the forces opposing Korea′s reunification and launching the patriotic movement for independent reunification, peace against war and great national unity.
The WPK has promoted relations with foreign countries on the principle of independence, equality and reciprocity and striven to build a peaceful and independent new world.
It will invariably maintain the ideal of independence, peace and friendship.
Invincible is the revolutionary cause of Juche of the WPK single-mindedly united around the Kim Jong Il-headed leadership of the revolution.
