Leading military confrontation against the US to victory

Leader Kim Jong Il led military confrontation with the US which pushed the situation on the Korean Peninsula to the brink of war by incident of the US spy ship “Pueblo” in January 1968 and the clash of spy plane “EC-121” in April 1969, with his extraordinary disposition of commander and rare military ability and matchless grit.  

The US imperialists were hell-bent on to provoke a war against north Korea instead of drawing lesson from the incident of “Pueblo” at the end of 1960s.

Leader Kim Jong Il ordered the KPA to fully prepare for a possible war, saying that they should prepare for war to annihilate the enemy if it invades from land, sea or air and respond retaliation to retaliation and return all-out war for all-out war.

One day at the beginning of 1969 he received a report that the US spy plane “EC-121” committed aerial espionage in the air of the West Sea of Korea. Stressing to defend sovereignty of north Korea, he said that they should show the world the stand of north Korea is not an empty word by responding to retaliation to retaliation and returning all-out war for all-out war to the US that experienced disgraceful defeat by the incident of “Pueblo.” He took tactical measures to shoot down the spy plane of the US.

According to the tactical measure put forth by leader Kim Jong Il, the US spy plane “EC-121” was shot down by the KPA Air Force on April 15 1969.

The clash of the US spy plane was a result of resolute independent stand against imperialism, matchless pluck and energetic leadership of Kim Jong Il who never tolerates US imperialism.

The news of “EC-121” clash rocked the world.

The US, instead of drawing lesson from the incident, stuck to its unreasonable insistence that north Korea downed the plane which was in international waters. The US formed mobile troops consisted of nuclear-powered carriers and warships to concentrate in Korean waters and reinforced bombers from military bases in Japan to south Korea. Claiming that the US aerial espionage on north Korea was reasonable, the then US President Nixon said that the US would continue aerial espionage and armed planes would accompany with the reconnaissance plane. He threatened north Korea that future development depends on north Korea.

The situation on the Korean Peninsula was tense and the world focused on north Korea.

However, Kim Jong Il aroused the entire army and people to the anti-US confrontation.

The leader said that all the servicemen of the KPA should fully prepare for the war and they should have high ideological consciousness to reunify the country if the US provokes a war against north Korea. He emphasized that north Korea would answer enemy’s retaliation to retaliation and return all-out war for all-out war. It was manifestations of his strong will to settle accounts if the US ignites a war against north Korea.  

In response to his strong will the entire army and people of north Korea dealt a fatal blow to the US in the anti-US confrontation.

The US military helicopter “OH-23G” violated north Korea's airspace on August 17, 1969. The KPA soldiers downed the helicopter and captured the three pilots.

It was quite resolute and deserved punishment. Pressured by tougher countermeasure of north Korea, the US got down on its knees and apologized to north Korea for its misbehavior.

Glorious results gained by the KPA in the anti-US confrontation at the end of 1960s are recorded in the history of the Songun revolutionary leadership of leader Kim Jong Il.

We extend the warmest congratulations to Kim Jong Il, Supreme Commander of the Korean People’s Army, and brilliant commander of Mt. Baekdu, and salute the KPA.

Now the KPA, which defends the forefront of anti-imperialism, enjoys people’s unstinted praise as for the most powerful revolutionary armed forces. Because it has won victory after victory under the Songun leadership of Kim Jong Il, brilliant commander born of Heaven and the sun of Songun in the 21^st century. He has led the KPA for half a century.

Leader Kim Jong Il started the Songun leadership by visiting the Guards Seoul Ryu Gyong Su 105 Tank Division of the KPA.

It was August 25, Juche 49 (1960).

The division performed meritorious deed in the past Korean War. When the war broke out, the division made a triumphal entry into Seoul, true to order of President Kim Il Sung, Supreme Commander of the KPA. The tank men proclaimed the liberation of Seoul after occupying the Seodaemun prison, the Seoul broadcasting station and the Capitol Building in Seoul.

By the glorious feats the division won the honor of “Guards Seoul Tank Division.”

Leader Kim Jong Il stood in front of the soldiers’ hall of culture. A slogan reading “Defend the Central Committee of the Party headed by Comrade Kim Il Sung at the cost of our lives!” was hung on the hall.

He highly appreciated the slogan saying that it reflects the unshakable will of the Korean people and soldiers. He said that all the servicemen should have ideological consciousness of defending the Central committee of the WPK headed by President Kim Il Sung at the cost of their lives, we should hasten the ultimate victory of the Korean revolution holding high the slogan, he stressed. His remarks carried his firm will to strengthen the KPA as the army of the leader and the army of the WPK.

He met officers of the division and tank men to give important instructions.

He said that the tank men should be loyal to the President as the tank men fought for the sake of the Party and leader in the Fatherland Liberation War, harboring the honor of serving in the tank division. Saying that it was a miracle unprecedented in the world history of war that the tank men entered Seoul without infantrymen, he noted that the President appreciated the miracle as they led a worthwhile life as masters of the country after the country’s liberation from the Japanese colonial rule, the tank men broke through any adversity to remain true to the President who provided a new life to them who lived under misfortune and pains.

Recollecting other 19 heroes including Ryu Kyong Su and An Dong Su produced in the division, he said that the tank men should fight as the tank men did in the Korean War. The tank men should annihilate the enemy as the tank men did in the Korean War, if the US provokes a war against north Korea, he said.   

He inspected the division for over 11 hours. He gave instructions in detail on the issue of defending and inheriting the revolutionary traditions and bolstering combat capability.

He underscored the need to educate the soldiers with heroic feats of the soldiers performed in the Fatherland Liberation War and inculcate the officers and soldiers with firm faith of devotedly defending the leader.

With Kim Jong Il’s historic inspection of the tank division, a new chapter of his Songun revolutionary leadership was opened in the revolutionary history of Songun which the was pioneered and advanced by President Kim Il Sung.   

Thanks to his tireless Songun revolutionary leadership, the KPA, which is prepared politically, ideologically and in military technique, is highlighted as an invincible deterrent force against imperialism and the US.   

Meticulous love for soldiers

Supreme Commander of the KPA Kim Jong Il’s long journey for Songun is recorded with great love for and trust in soldiers of the KPA.

Kim Jong Il inspected a women company of the KPA last year. He was very delighted to see many sacks of bean piled up in the food store.

Then he visited the kitchen. Acquainting himself with diet of the soldiers, he entered the kitchen full of the odor of cooking and vapor. He turned his eyes to cooking made of bean on the kitchen table.

Steam was rising from the cooking.

Saying the cooking looks delicious, he noted that boiled rice and cereals is taster than boiled rice. He instructed the officers and soldiers on kitchen duty the method of making boiled rice and cereals in detail.

He appreciated the fact that the women company built a cultivating place for bean sprouts and provides the soldiers with bean sprouts from spring to fall.

Beaming smile in his face, he asked a soldier on the duty when she joined the KPA and whether she had strong constitution before joining the army.

She answered she had weak constitution before joining the army, however, she put on flesh after taking bean food.        

The senior officers of the unit said the soldiers gained their weight after taking bean food.

Kim Jong Il said that he attained his cherished desire and bean is the best, expressing his great satisfaction.

He said that the women soldiers on duty of kitchen are healthy; the women soldiers said that they grew fat by taking bean food; the fact proves that bean is very good to health of human.  

Leader Kim Jong Il, who pays deep attention to the improvement of the soldiers’ diet, loving the soldiers, is a benevolent father of the KPA soldiers.  

Thanks to his great love for the soldiers, the KPA demonstrates its might as the most powerful revolutionary armed force of Mt. Baekdu.
