1) The role of the working class clarified in the Songun idea and Songun politics

The Songun idea and Songun politics are the idea and politics which give precedence to the military affaires and here the revolutionary army forms the main force and pillar of the revolution.

Nevertheless the Songun idea and Songun politics don't negate the role of the working class.

The working class still remains as the progressive force in socialist society and is superior to other working people in class consciousness, collectivism and revolutionary spirit.

Moreover it is in charge of industry, the leading sector of the national economy and the working class in key industries and defense industry, in particular, plays a very important role in the revolution and construction.

So in order to successfully carry out the political line of Songun the leading role of the people's army should be secured and the workers, farmers and all other people should give priority to the military affaires and support the army.

2) The question of army viewed in the Songun idea and Marxism-Leninism

(1) The question of nature of the revolutionary army

The army is a military unit organized by armed persons in order to realize the demands and interests of a certain class and social collective.

In general the revolutionary army is an armed force organized to realize the demands and interests of the popular masses including the working class.

Defining the nature of the revolutionary army in the context of class relations Marxism-Leninism clarified that it is the army of the working class.

Marx and Engels who lived in the capitalist era when the working class emerged on the scene of history and turned out in the revolutionary struggle, recognized the necessity of building the revolutionary army and acknowledged its nature as the army of the working class that defends the interests of the working class.

Lenin, on the basis of his experiences of leading the revolution in Russia where the peasants together with the working class formed a majority in the society, viewed the Soviet army as a weapon of the proletarian dictatorship asserting in a military program that it should have the class character.

The Juche-oriented outlook on the armed force defines the nature of the revolutionary army in the context of the viewpoint centered on the leader.

According to the Juche idea the leader is by no means an individual but the highest personifier and representative of the independent demands and interests of the popular masses, taking the absolute position and playing the decisive role in the revolutionary struggle.

In essence, he is the supreme leader in the theory of the working class on army building and its realization.

Only relying on the military viewpoint centered on the leader, it is possible to deduce correct answer to the nature of the revolutionary army.

The revolutionary army is led by the revolutionary idea of the leader and devotedly defends the leader and fights for realizing the independent cause of the popular masses, the cause of the leader.

From its nature and mission, the revolutionary army as a weapon for realizing the leader's cause, possesses the politico-ideological superiority and this is just the paramount advantage of the revolutionary armed force and the source of its invincibility.

The army of the exploiting class, the imperialist army, always pursues the military technical and numerical advantage.

But the politico-ideological superiority of the revolutionary army comprises the boundless loyalty of the servicepersons to the leader and the party, the lofty revolutionary spirit to fight for the people's freedom and happiness, the revolutionary spirit to sacrifice their lives for the fatherland and revolution, the comradeship between officers and soldiers, unity of idea and fighting traits between the army and people, and the conscious military discipline.

And here, the core is the boundless loyalty of the servicepersons to the leader.

Marxism-Leninism also mentioned the superiority of the revolutionary army.

Lenin, who formed the first revolutionary regular army of the working class, asserted that the revolutionary army is the army of the workers and peasants, the army for friendship among all the nations and a new army educated with the spirit of internationalism.

And Stalin pointed out that the Soviet patriotism is an important superiority of the Red Army.

However, since they did not elucidate the nature of the revolutionary army correctly they could not expound the politico-ideological superiority of the revolutionary army of which quintessence is the loyalty to the leader and that the politico-ideological superiority is the main weapon to overwhelm the military technical and numerical superiority of the imperialist army.

(2) The question of position and role of the revolutionary army

The military theory in Marxism and Leninism viewed the army as a tool of class domination under the control of the ruling classes and a means of politics.

In other words, the revolutionary army of the working class is a weapon of the proletariat to carry out the proletarian revolution and defend the triumphed revolution from the resistance of the exploiting class and the imperialist aggression.

Though it was of certain significance, it is not a sufficient elucidation of the position and role which the revolutionary army assumes in the process of accomplishing the revolutionary cause of the working class.

The position and role of the revolutionary army in the development of society and revolution are clarified perfectly by the Songun idea of leader Kim Jong Il.

It is that the army is the main force and pillar of the revolution.

In light of its position, the revolutionary army is regarded as the most pivotal group among the revolutionary ranks. It is formed with those fine vanguard fighters determined to dedicate their lives to the revolution among the working classes and strata, and for this reason, it is a group with high revolutionary spirit, which devotes itself to defending and realizing the people's interests.

It is again the army which embodies the organizational sense and consciousness, the core character of the revolutionary movement, and personifies the collective nature of socialism with credit.

In light of its role, the revolutionary army plays the leading role in the revolution and construction.

The army, without doubt, plays the decisive role in winning power and defending the revolutionary gains and in the revolutionary war against the imperialists.

The army is the revolutionary group most powerful in propelling the overall socialist construction and overcoming the hardships.

In socialist countries the revolutionary army plays a unique role.

It is a law-governed process that the more the society develops the more the position and role of the revolutionary army augment in accomplishing the socialist cause which is started, advanced and completed by virtue of guns.

The army in socialist society is the pillar of the party and state, which shoulders the destiny of the revolution.

The army is the pillar of the revolution on which the party and state rely while the party and the sovereign government are the guide and political weapon for accomplishing the socialist cause.

Without the guarantee of guns it is impossible to maintain the party and the government and safeguard the destiny of the socialist state and the popular masses.

In this sense the Songun theory is produced clarifying that the army is precisely the party, the state and the people.

As a model in remolding the entire members of the society into true revolutionaries, the army plays the leading role, too, in developing and perfecting the social relations.

The Juche-oriented theory on army-building which puts up the army as the main force and pillar of the revolution is a great discovery which innovated the former revolutionary theory of the working class on forming the revolutionary forces.

The preceding revolutionary theory of the past clarified that the main contradiction of the capitalist society could be solved through the class struggle of the exploited working masses against the exploiter classes and the working class is in charge of this struggle, putting it up as the motive force.

On the matter which class or group occupy the pivotal position in framing the forces that propel the revolution, the preceding theories put up the working class as the main force mainly in consideration of the social economic relations and social economic conditions of men.

Although the social economic relations or living conditions can be an objective condition in framing the revolutionary forces, but they cannot be a main factor.

The social class surroundings of man change in accordance with the social development.

The proletariat mentioned by the preceding classic theorists is no more the same as the working class of today in their social surroundings.

Along with the rapid development of the IT industry the labor force in the intellectual fields is growing faster than that in the physical labor.

The premise that the working class has nothing but the fist and hammer does not fit with today's reality.

For that reason the position and role of a socio-political collective in the revolutionary movement should be defined by its ideo-spiritual character and might, not by the socio-economic surroundings.

The reason of regarding the revolutionary army as the main force of the revolution is because the influential ideo-spiritual character of the revolutionary army is superior to any other group.

The preceding theoreticians viewed that the revolutionary spirit and fighting capacity of man depend on his or her socio-economic situation whether he or she is from haves or have-nots. So they claimed that the revolutionary and organizational sense and discipline are associated with the have-nots and working class should assume the leading role in the revolution, putting it up as the motive force.

Of course the working class is the most progressive class, so it plays the vanguard role in the revolution all the time.

However, apart from guns the revolutionary struggle of the working class can not win victory. Furthermore the struggle for socialism faces the permanent military pressure and aggressive threat from the imperialists.

In such a situation without the strong military power we can not advance the revolutionary struggle victoriously.

The vanguard role of the working class can be played only when it is backed by the strong military might.

In light of the anti-imperialist class struggle of today the motive force of the revolution should be defined different from the past.

Since the present time is an era of the fierce confrontation between the anti-imperialist independent forces and imperialism which seeks for the unipolarized world, it is none other than the might of the army that safeguards socialism.

The present circumstances urgently demand to set the army at the head as the main force and strengthen the revolutionary forces.

"Army first, workers next", this is the principle that our times demand in framing the main force.

The Songun idea which puts up the revolutionary army as the main force and pillar is the invincible banner that leads the cause of socialism and independence under the new historical circumstances of today.
