The editorial board of the Red Banner of Songun theoritical e-journal wishes to avail its self of the occassion of the 89th anniversary of the birth of General Kim Jong Suk to create the "Great Mother Kim Jong Suk Tribute Page", introducing her greatness and significance in the anti-Japanese armed struggle to the world.

Many people know that Comrade Kim Jong Suk was the legendary wife of President Kim Il Sung and mother of Marshal Kim Jong Il, but what is less well known and of equal significance, is her role in the anti-Japanese armed struggle and her filial devotution to the great leader and Korean nation.

Each country which fights colonialism and struggles for unity and independence has its women heros and patriots who sacrificed beside the men of the nation. The greatest of great women heros of the Korean anti-Japanese Guerrillas was Mother Kim Jong Il, the symbol of womenhood in socialist Korea and a brilliant guerrilla General in her own right.

Like most of the anti-Japanese partisans, Comrade Kim Jong Suk was born of a peasant background, witnessing the slaughter and oppression of the Korean people by the Japanese imperialists with indignation from her native city of Hoeryong City.

Never experiancing the comforts a young women can typically hope to enjoy, she joined the Korean People's Revolutionary Army, forerunner of today's Korean People's Army, and attained the rank of General.

On the battlefield she was a legendary warrior recording many successful kills and safeguarding Comrade Kim Il Sung at the risk her own perishement.  Her legend as a marksmen and strategist grew and grew causing many of the Japanese to tremble upon hearing her name. Her marriage to Great Leader Kim Il Sung and birthing of Marshal Kim Jong Il at a secret camp deep in Mt. Baekdu at the height of the anti-Japanese struggle is now legendary.

Off the battlefield she was a steadfast Communist revolutionary who always remained loyal to the correct instruction of the Great Leader in conduction Juche-oriented political work bringing the patritoic masses and the KPRA into single-hearted unity.

After the defeat of the Japanese she participated in the building of the democratic organization and bringing out the full play of the masses. In particular, she was and shall remain the spiritual leader of the Korean Democratic Women's Union, placing emphasis on the fact that women and men are equal but that women should embrace their feminine qualities proudly.

In 1949 she passed away at the young age of 32, but her immortal revolutionary exploits live on forever and ever in the hearts of the Korean people and all of progressive humankind. Today the Korean Democratic Women's Union has it as one of its chief goals  "to encourage the women to learn after Comrade Kim Jong Suk, the anti-Japanese heroine and distinguished leader of the Korean women's movement".
